There are couple of Sikh Day festivities planned here in Michigan.

1. 3rd Annual Nagar Kirtan (Sikh Parade) presented by Wayne State University Sikh Student Oranization, on Friday April 14th, 2006 from 10.00 AM to 2.00 PM at Wayne State University in front of the “Under Graduate Library” Langar (Free Lunch) will be served after the Parade.

“Mozart of Madras” is coming to Michigan.
AR Rahman is coming to Ypsilanti, Michigan. A.R. Rahman, one of India’s leading musicians and music director for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Bombay Dreams” and the musical, “Lord of the Rings,” takes to the stage for a benefit concert Saturday, April 15, 7:30 p.m., at Eastern Michigan University’s Convocation Center. Tickets range from $205-$50.

The show, “Wake Up! A.R. Rahman with 150 All Stars,” will bring together Rahman’s works on stage through colorful costumes and set designs, along with Indian and American singers and dancers. Rahman also will perform with the Global Rhythm All Stars, a group of more than 150 American artists that have performed with numerous Grammy-winning artists.

Joining Rahman on stage will be cellist V.R. Sekar, founder of the Madras String Quartet; playback singer/actor Vasundhara Das; and playback singer Kailash Kher.

King of Ghazal Jagjit Singh will be live in concert at the Millennium Center, Southfield on April 23rd, 2006 at 6.00pm. For more details visit Palace Entertainment. Gudi Padwa, also known as Ugadi, is celebrated on the first day of the Hindu month of Chaitra, which according to the Gregorian calendar would fall sometime at the end of March and the beginning of April. This festival is supposed to mark the beginning of spring.

On the heels of my Google Maps + Oscars Mashup, decided to do the same for Bollywood Filmfare Awards. The awards date back to 1953. I have gone as far back as 1975.
